Students to Service Loan Repayment Program
In the 2013 fiscal year, 86 awards were made. The application opens in mid-October of a given calendar year and closes in mid-November. Awards are made no later than January 31 of the following year.

- Open to allopathic and osteopathic medical students in their fourth year at an accredited medical school
- Must choose a primary care residency
- After residency--3 years of full-time or, with approval, 6 years of half-time service in an area of high need, typically in an area with an HPSA score of 14.
- Employment site examples include: federally-qualified health centers, rural health clinics, federal Indian health service clinics, solo or group private practices, public health departments, hospital-affiliated outpatient primary care practices, and Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs). The NHSC Jobs Center provides a resource to students for researching employment opportunities.
- NHSC will fund up to $120,000. Participants can continue loan repayment in one-year continuation contracts after completion of the original 3 year/6 year commitment. Loans are non-taxable.
- In 2014 the NHSC anticipates making 100 awards.
