Physician State Matching Loan Repayment Program-South Carolina
South Carolina Physician Incentive Grant Program
Website: https://www.scahec.net/incentivegrant.html
Eligibility: To be eligible for the State Incentive Grant program, all applicants must be U.S. citizens and have no outstanding service obligation for health professional service to the Federal Government (e.g., an active military obligation or National Health Service Corp), a State (e.g. State Loan Repayment Program or Scholarship Program obligation) or other entity, unless the obligation would be completed prior to receipt of the State Incentive Grant Award.
The Rural Physician Board will accept applicants from credentialed Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, and Physician Assistants who contract for a period of three (3) years to practice in a South Caroline HPSA. Amount of the award for these practitioners will be from $20,000 to $30,000 depending on the degree of severity of the HSPA.
Service Requirements: Accepted providers will sign a contract with South Carolina AHEC and MUSC to practice medicine in an underserved area for a designated amount of time. The terms of the contract stipulate that all providers will accept both Medicare and Medicaid patients and their practice not discriminate against any person on the basis of their ability to pay. Continuation of the contracts from year to year is contingent upon the availability of funds allocated by the South Carolina General Assembly and a contract from the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Accepted providers are expected to maintain an outpatient primary care practice for full time medical services provided at the designated location.
Who Can Apply: All recipients must be licensed by the State of South Carolina and board certified. Applications are encouraged from residents who will be completing their training within the year, and it is expected that the resident will become board certified at their earliest opportunity in accordance with the requirements of their specialty.
Amount of Repayment per Year of Service: the amount of the award will vary with the minimum award being $40,000 and the maximum award being $70,000 depending upon the degree of severity of the HPSA.
