Rhode Island Primary Care Loan Forgiveness Program

Eligibility: Primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
Service Requirement: One year of service per year of funding for up to 4 years is expected. Eligible physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants must provide 32 hours of direct patient care per week during each year of service.
Who can Apply: Licensed physicians (MDs or DOs) newly recruited to practice in Rhode Island and work in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics are currently eligible to apply. Licensed nurse practtioners and physician assistants new to practice of primary care in Rhode Island.
Amount of Repayment per Year of Service: Awards for physciains up to $20,000 per year up to a maximum of 4 years. Maximum award up to $80,000 based on level of debt. Same award requirements for physician assistants and nurse practitioners, although maximum award level is $10,000 per year.
